Session 4 The Future of Manufacturing: Automatic,Digital or Smart?

The session was moderated by ZHANG Yandong,President of CAIJING Think Tank. ZHOU Xiaochuan, Vice-Chairman of the Board and former Governor, the People’s Bank of China; Alex Goldman SHAYMAN, Consul General of the State of Israel in Guangzhou; YAN Kesheng, Vice President of Xiaomi Corporation and General Manager of Mobile Phone Intelligent Manufacturing Department; ZHANG Xianming, Vice President of BCORE and general manager of BCORE Digital, and Carl F. FEY, Professor of Strategy at BI Norwegian Business School, engaged in a discussion on the topic of manufacturing.

ZHOU Xiaochuan stated that digitization, networking, and intelligentization are closely interconnected and have enormous development potential, which will have a significant impact on the entire economy and manufacturing industry. Alex Goldman SHAYMAN expressed that the development of the manufacturing industry requires support from new technologies and guidance from new trends. It also needs the ability to conduct standardized and large-scale production, as well as a broad vision. YAN Kesheng analyzed from the perspective of enterprise development, pointing out that whether it is intelligent manufacturing, automation, digitization, or networking, the ultimate goal is to enhance the overall efficiency of the entire enterprise. ZHANG Xianming emphasized that there is still a vast space for automation, and digitization and intelligentization can empower automation. Carl F. FEY believed that companies need to improve transportation efficiency and elevate human labor. Based on their digital transformation goals, they should iteratively upgrade their level of intelligence to improve production efficiency.

The transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry is unquestionably a direction and trend. The panelists unanimously agreed that a new round of technological and industrial revolution is rapidly emerging, reshaping the structure, costs, and layout of the global value chain and industrial chain. The level of automation, digitization, networking, and intelligent development in a country's manufacturing sector will determine its position in international competition and cooperation.
